Just today I was talking to the author of a couple of self-published books, explaining that while I have been a teacher of literature for several years, I really don't like reading fiction.
My reason is simple. There are lots of very interesting true stories -- more than I could ever read. Why read lies -- even clever ones?
I recall long ago reading that about 3/4ths of books read in the US, beginning around the 1940s have been non-fiction. So I guess I'm not the only one of this opinion.
